Noble Cosmetic Surgery Center
Overview
Noble Cosmetic is an 8,700-square-foot, single-story outpatient cosmetic surgery center located in Plano, Texas. The facility was delivered under an architect-led design/build approach, with IDD Architecture serving as both the architect of record and builder. Awarded in September 2020, design completed in April 2021, and construction finished on schedule in April 2022. Despite market challenges such as COVID-19 related supply chain and labor shortages, the project met its $5.5 million budget and opened as planned. The center provides advanced surgical and non-surgical treatments, featuring exam rooms, operating rooms, administrative support areas, and a drive-through patient pickup zone. It was designed to ensure efficient patient flow, infection control, and patient comfort, all within a modern and inviting environment.
Project Goals:
Design and Implementation:
- Layout/Structural Changes: The single-story building was carefully positioned and configured to meet municipal requirements, site conditions, and patient needs. To achieve efficient patient movement, the design team arranged exam rooms, pre-op/post-op spaces, and operating rooms around a central nurse station, ensuring direct visual oversight and smooth workflow.
- Materials and Finishes: Interior finishes were chosen to support infection control standards, including surfaces that are easy to clean and sanitize. The building is fully sprinklered, and medical gas piping is integrated within the walls. Exterior elements and a raised illuminated rotunda created visual interest and integrated the facility into its surrounding context.
Key Elements:
- Two advanced operating rooms equipped with state-of-the-art lighting and medical gas outlets.
- Six exam rooms for consultations, minor procedures, and non-surgical treatments.
- A pre-op and post-op area enabling privacy and efficient patient preparation and recovery.
- Separate HVAC zones for the surgical suite with HEPA filters, ensuring proper airflow and stringent infection control.
- A convenient drive-through patient pickup area providing safe and sheltered patient transfers.
Challenges:
- Limited Real Estate and Municipal Regulations: The project team balanced building footprint and orientation to meet city requirements. Creative site planning and façade articulation ensured the building maximized the limited property while offering a welcoming entrance.
- Sloping Site Conditions: Civil engineers implemented precise cut and fill techniques to achieve an accessible, level building pad.
- Contextual Scale and Presence: Adjacent structures were imposing. By elevating the building height and incorporating a prominent illuminated rotunda, the design established a cohesive architectural presence that blended with the existing landscape.
